Ok, I know that MP3s have their place.  I am a huge fan of all 4 of the Ipods I have owned.  My current Iphone is an amazing portable music device, but it is just that, PORTABLE.

I have gone a lot longer than I have wanted without having a working CD player in my home office / studio.  I have had to live with listening to music off of my computer via Itunes.  My old player died a tragic death and it’s replacement was DOA.  The replacements replacement got here today.

I keep hearing that the traditional way of buying music, namely the CD or other physical media, is going the way of the buggy whip in favor of digital download.  If so, there really is no hope for this society we have built.

I know that people claim that they can not tell the difference between a high bit rate MP3 and a CD played on a decent CD player.  I simply don’t believe that.  Perhaps they can not tell the difference between an MP3 and a CD played on a piece of crap CD player, but if you have quality equipment, there is a HUGE difference.

As I said, I am a huge fan of MP3s for my portable listening, perhaps when I can quickly download loseless quality digital files I will make the jump, but I would still have to find a way to get them over to the stereo which has speakers that no computer will ever have.

You heard it here, the demise of high quality music will be the downfall of our society.

Oh, and for all you vinyl guys, I know!!!!
