Coming to an end

I hope that everyone had a very Merry Christmas.

A little Christmas experiement

I am a member of a not so secret society of online golf buddies.  This group of bastard golf malcontents hang out on an online forum that I just happen to host and administer.  Every year this same group of golf bastards send me a gift card to B&H photo, seriously, what photog could ask for more from a great bunch of guys?

Last year I used the gift card to buy a Lensbaby Composer.  Even though I don’t shoot with it as much as I should, it is one of the favorite things in my bag.  This year I used the gift card to buy the 0.6x wide angle, 0.42x super wide angle, 1.6x telephoto and macro lens kit.

Typically when I get anything new that is optical I like to take it out when I have good light and can control almost everything to give it a shake down.  This time I took it out at night to shoot some Christmas lights at a very popular display in Gilbert, AZ.

This image is a 3 image HDR shot though the Lensbaby Composer w/ 0.42x super wide angle adapter.  HDR is far newer to me than using a Lensbaby and this is the first time ever that I have combined the two.  This is actually the first 3 images captured through the wide angle adapter.  From a composition standpoint there are some things I would change if I were shooting this image again, but it was an experiment, and honestly, I think a successful one.

Nativity

Most of my Christmas images so far this year have centered around the lights.  Thought I might change things up a little tonight.  This image was made at the LDS (Mormon) Temple in Mesa on Sunday night.  I have more, including some HDR, that I shot that night and will be posting them over the next few days.

I hope you enjoy, and please click the image to see a larger version.

Christmas Ornaments

Last night was my work’s annual Christmas party.  This is normally a pretty high end affair and this year was no different.  It was held at the Arizona Biltmore and it seems that everyone had a great time.

This image is of the center piece at my table.  In order to get this I had to really compensate the exposure way down and add a little fill flash to actually light the subject.

Christmas Lights

We took a little time tonight and went out to look at some of the Christmas lights that are around our neighborhood.  We have always enjoyed going out and looking at lights, and would have normally been out long before tonight, but with Ann having just started a new job we have been very busy lately.  Hopefully we will have more of a chance over the next few days.

In any case, this image is a 3 shot HDR.  I am still learning a thing or two about night time HDR, but for the most part I am happy with the results of this one.
