A Sancha power steering update, part II

Can you believe this, 2 FJ40 blog posts in a row.  Considering my traffic drops off drastically whenever I post anything landcruiser related, I may have just sent my page views to ZERO! :-)

Seriously though, just a quick update to show the final placement of the saginaw power steering box.  Sancha will be coming home over the weekend for the final time.  It seems somewhat odd to have her away. :-)

Taking WordPress 3.1 for a test drive

I have been using a Firefox plugin to post blog entries for a very long time.  I haven’t really liked the interface for WordPress.  One of the upgrades to 3.1 is an improved posting front end.  I decided to give it a try.  If it works, clicking on the image of Sancha in this post should take you to the rebuild thread.

Sancha Today

I decided to brave the 100+ temps today, it was a chilly 95 in my garage, and get the body (tub) off of Sancha.  She is starting to look a lot less like a Landcruiser, but this was a huge step forward on this project.  Next step will be power washing and painting the frame.  After that it will be time to start working on rebuilding a couple axles.

Heart and Soul

I guess a drive train of any vehicle is it’s heart and soul.  If that is the case, Sancha is now without hers.  This first shot is an Iphone snapshot I took while hoisting the engine out.  Note here, this is not the preferred way to do this, but we couldn’t use a chain lift as we had nowhere to bolt to, so we ended up using a tow strap wrapped around the engine.  Needless to say, the engine did not come out as evenly as we would have liked.

It is now time to start cleaning things up.  I have old motor mounts to remove and 42 years of dirt and grime to clean up.

Stay tuned for future updates.

Getting closer

Just about ready to pull the drive train out of Sancha.  I spent some time tonight getting the transmission hump/cover removed.  If things go as planned, the engine, transmission and transfer case should be getting pulled out this weekend.  Stay tuned.
