Speed Limit

I really seem to be a sucker for low angle images taken in the middle of a highway.  Throw in a recent rainstorm and some good clouds and who could ask for more?

This image was taken during our day trip out to Yuma on Saturday.  I normally hate driving to Yuma, but if you can grab a decent image or two along the way, it makes the trip worthwhile.

Out in the field

We had to make a road trip to Yuma on Saturday to deliver some FJ40 doors to a guy from San Diego.  Normally a drive to Yuma is nothing to look forward to, but for those that are not aware of it, we had a pacific storm move though Arizona over the weekend.  This lead to some very nice skies.  I was crossing my fingers that there would be some lighting, and even though I say a few flashes Saturday night, they were A VERY LONG way to the north of us.  While not specifically storm chasing on this trip, I am using it to kick off my 2011 storm chasing/weather gallery.

I did pull over and grab this image though.  It is actually a hand held HDR panorama.  The pano was put together from 13 tone mapped images that were 3 brackets each.

A desert storm in IR

I am going to be spending a little time over the next few weeks getting my Smugmug galleries “caught up.”  For some reason, probably lack of time, I have a lot of images that never made it over there when I made the big move from Flickr.  I won’t be blogging all of them, but I did want to post this one as it will be starting things off.

A couple years ago I played around a lot with IR photography, I even attempted a couple daily and weekly projects which I simply wasn’t able to complete due to lack to time.  I ended up selling my IR converted camera to help pay some bills this last summer and I have to say that I really miss having the body.  Before I got into HDR, it was about the only thing I shot daytime storm images with during monsoon season.

This image is a panorama that I made in the California desert on July 2, 2009.  I don’t remember how many images make up the pano but I am guessing 9 or 10.

As always, please click on the image to see a bigger version on my Smugmug site.

Our first “winter” storm

Ok, maybe not as dramatic as the winter weather has been in other parts of the country, but we will take what we can get. :-)
